With mobile I mean both &#8220;movable&#8221; or &#8220;in motion&#8221;. This topic became also part of my <a title=\"Phd Thesis Gualdi 2010\" href=\"http:\/\/www.giovannigualdi.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/GUALDI_Phd_thesis_5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Phd thesis<\/a> and has been thoroughly described in a paper on IEEE Transactions on Multimedia:<\/p>\n<p>G. Gualdi, A. Prati, R. Cucchiara, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.giovannigualdi.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/tmm2008-gualdi.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Video Streaming for Mobile Video Surveillance<\/a>&#8221; in <em>IEEE Transactions on Multimedia<\/em>, vol.\u00a010, n.\u00a06, pp.\u00a01142-1154, 2008<\/p>\n<p>The system, named MoSeS (Mobile Streaming for Surveillance) is<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">based on H264<\/span> codec (x264)<\/li>\n<li>works on radio-mobile connectivity,<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> exploiting also GPRS or EDGE<\/span> connectivity<\/li>\n<li>is able to stream videos at a bandwidth <span style=\"color: #993300;\">as low as 5kbps (!)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>the decoder works also on smartphones (ARM, WinCE)<\/li>\n<li>in this context <span style=\"color: #993300;\">latency is approximately 1 second<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also successfully tested the ability to <span style=\"color: #993300;\">perform object tracking<\/span> on a central server, obtaining video data from mobile sources that exploit GPRS radio-mobile connectivity.
