In 2003 my work was based on a network of distributed nodes aimed at video surveillance basic tasks; each node was equipped with<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">PXA XScale processor (ARM)<\/span> from Intel, 500Mhz<\/li>\n<li>Linux (familiar distribution)<\/li>\n<li>low-cost camera<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">wifi connectivity (ad-hoc, AODV<\/span> routing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">and it was performing<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> object tracking<\/span> through background differencing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"highslide\" title=\"SeViT22.jpg\" onclick=\"return hs.expand(this )\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/SeViT22.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/SeViT22-t.jpg\" alt=\"SeViT22-t.jpg\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em>XScale Processor for Video Surveillance @ HPLabs <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>A higher-level node was putting together the data coming from single camera object tracking and was performing<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> object positioning on the 2D map of the monitored environment<\/span>. This system was connected to an <span style=\"color: #993300;\">access control system based on RFID (HF\/UHF)<\/span>, and then I have personally added<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> the biometric identification through fingerprinting<\/span>: the fingerprint was read and a template was matched real-time with a fingerprint template stored in the RD\/WR memory of the RFID.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"highslide\" title=\"SeViT11.jpg\" onclick=\"return hs.expand(this )\" href=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/SeViT11.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/SeViT11-t.jpg\" alt=\"SeViT11-t.jpg\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><em>XScale Processor for Object Positioning and RFID @ HPLabs <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>For further details please go to the <a title=\"Gualdi @ Bay Area Vision Meeting 2004\" href=\".\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/gualdi2_BAVM04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> slides presented at Bay Area Vision Meeting 2004 <\/a> , Palo Alto o to the <a title=\"US Patent 7,057,509\" href=\".\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/us7057509_0_920_B2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> U.S. Patent 7,057,509<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More recently I have been commissioned to study<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> DaVinci and Omap architectures, from Texas Instruments<\/span>. These architectures have the advantage of offering generic purpose programming platform via ARM and very powerful processing through DSPs specifically devised for multimedia streaming and video surveillance.
